SATURDAY 31st OCTOBER TORRIDON
Meet Contact: Antonia
OS Sheets 19, 24, 25 Grid Ref : 957568
Meet in Kinlochewe at the carpark opposite the hotel. From there you have the choice of climbing the Munro Slioch or driving a little further down the A832 to the Visitor Centre for the Corbetts Ruadh-stac Beag and Meall a’ Ghuibhais. Alternatively, head west down Glen Torridon to the car-park west of the bridge across the Allt a’ Choire Dhuibh Mhoir at the start of the Coire Duibh Mor path. This presents a great opportunity to tackle any of the Torridon Tryptic: Liathach, Ben Eighe & Ben Alligin. There is also a number of Corbetts from the same carpark. To the south there are the two of Sgorr nan Lochan Uaine and Sgurr Dubh, to the north are Baosbheinn and Beinn an Eoin; and adjacent to the horns of Alligin is the steep sided Beinn Dearg and also down the road, the lovely Beinn Damh.
SUNDAY 15th NOVEMBER NEWTONMORE
Meet Contact: Karen
OS Sheet 34, 35, 41, 42
Meet at the Newtonmore Post Office in the high street. From there you can then decide whether to drive up the Glen Banchor road where there are 3 Munros or drive on further through to Laggan where there is the choice of up to 9 Munros.
From the end of the Glen Banchor Road at Newtonmore (Grid Ref: 692015) you can walk the 3 Munros of the Monadh Liath Range, an extensive undulating plateau on the NW side of the Spey Valley, A’ Chailleach, Carn Sgulain and Carn Dearg. If it’s Corbetts you’re after there are two: Carn na Fhreiceadain walked by driving back to Gynack Road in Kingussie and Geal-charn Mòr from Lynwilg. From the Laggan Road the obvious Munros are the round of Creag Meagaidh, Carn Liath and Stob Poite Coire Ardair by parking at the Creag Meagaidh Nature Reserve Car Park (Grid Ref: 482872), or drive a short distance further west to reach the starting point for the trio of Creag Pitridh, Geal Charn and Beinn a’ Chlachair. A bicycle would be very useful for these latter three hills to cycle up a decent track to the start of this circuit. Both these circuits are long days so please take both the weather and day length into account when planning your day. Other Munros in the vicinity are the pair of Beinn a’ Chaorainn and Beinn Teallach. Alternatively walk Geal Charn from either Glen Markie or Garva Bridge which provides a good short day. Those pursuing the Corbetts can travel up to the Corrieyairack Pass for the Corrieyairack Hill and Gairbeinn.
